Anita died in July, 2023 at the age of 81. She was a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University. She was a longtime volunteer of Insight Arts in Rogers Park and was a former employee of Girl Scouts of America and Director of Admin. Services & Community Relations at United Church of Rogers Park.

Chris Barkulis

Obituary:
Chris Peter Barkulis, 45, a commodities broker, food distributor, bouncer at a nightclub and former minor league baseball star (played third base for a Cubs farm team in California), died in 1987 from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He left behind a daughter. Chris had been a commodities broker at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange since 1975. He also was a founder and partner of Barkulis Bros. Inc., the Midwest distributers of Haagen-Dazs and Dove Bar ice cream. The company was founded by Chris and his brothers.

Elizabeth Bloomfield

Obituary:
Elizabeth died in March 2016. She has 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. She attended Washington University after graduating from Senn. Liz was married to Ron Silverstein for 25 years. She represented artists of dance, music and other performing arts. Liz enjoyed yoga, knitting, dog training, travel and extreme sports.

Louis Bochan

Obituary:
Louis died in May, 2020 at age 77. Upon attaining degrees from Roosevelt and Loyola Universities, Louis was an upper grade teacher in the Chicago Public School system for eleven years before becoming Assistant Director of Urban and Ethnic Education for the Illinois Office of Education. He then became a Coordinating Planner for the City of Chicago's Department of Planning, utilizing his background in physical and social planning skills in locating sites for new schools, police stations, firehouses, libraries and mental health facilities, until he moved on to join the Chicago Transit Authority as a Senior Strategic Planner in 1984. He rose through the ranks to become Superintendent of Corporate Planning and retired from the CTA as Manager of the Quality Management Department.

Janet died in January, 2019, 2 weeks short of her 77th birthday. She is survived by her husband, Larry, 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Thomas Bronsky

Obituary:
Tom died in December of 2022 at the age of 80. He was married to Michele for almost 38 years. He is survived by 2 daughters and 1 granddaughter. Tom played violin in both the Senn and U of I orchestras. After getting a masters of Social Work from the U of Wisconsin-Milwaukee , Tom worked for the Dept. Of Veterans Affairs for 31 years in both Wisconsin and California. After retirement he moved to Door County where Tom worked an additional decade for The Clearing Folk School and was a volunteer in many community programs.

Howard Carroll

Obituary:
Howie died in October, 2021 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife Eda, 2 daughters and two granddaughters. He spent most of his life in public service. Howie was a statesman, voice for the voiceless, and a great storyteller. He served in the Illinois House and Senate for 28 years, and authored numerous bills focusing on equal rights and human rights. He meet with Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Mother Teresa. Howie was a family man and deeply devoted to his Jewish faith.

Obituary:
Jack died in October, 2021 at the age of 79. He was married to Carol for 49 years before her passing. They have 3 sons and 3 grandchildren. He moved to Georgia not long after high school to operate a family liquor store. He later become the owner and operator of another liquor store. Jack enjoyed outdoor activities - especially hunting and fishing.

Howard Cooper

Obituary:
Howard died in December, 2017 at age 75. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy, his two daughters and two grandchildren. He graduated from Roosevelt University with a degree in Business-Finance and attended law school at DePaul University. After working as an investment banker in Chicago, he moved to Decatur to manage the family business, Decatur Super Liquor. He enjoyed a later-in-life career as a realtor. Howard was an avid reader, loved brain teasers, studied Mandarin, and was an active temple member.

Merle Cristol

Obituary:
Merle died in January, 2022 at the age of 78. She was a tireless problem solver, taking particular pride in being the mother you needed rather than the mother you wanted. She was an advocate on behalf of autistic children, challenging authority to ensure her own children got the education and care they were entitled to. She had a daughter and son with her late husband. Merle was known as the: Doll Lady of Chicago. She appraised collections and gave lectures at the Museum of Science and Industry. Merle also bought and sold antique and collectable dolls. Her personal collection included thousands of dolls. She was also passionate about domestic and international travel, foreign cuisines, art house films, and creative writing.

I remember Merle as being brilliant - I think she was the salutatorian of our class. She was a very sweet person.

Fred Cutler

Obituary:
Fred died on March 8th, 2012 (age 69) at his home in Dunwoody, GA. His wife of 48 years, Sheila was with him. Fred had two sons and two grandchildren. He held various positions during his career including accountant, comptroller and salesperson. Fred was retired at the time of his death. Fred's interests included airplanes and cars. He was very active in the Porsche Club of America.

Marvin Dickman

Obituary:
Marvin died on 1/19/2015 at the age of 71. Marvin was married to Susie for 47 years. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. Marvin spent his entire career of 35 years as a CPA working at Arthur Andersen. After retirement he took classes in Jewish studies. Throughout the years he was very active in and on the board of many organizations.

Norm died on May 9, 2016 at the age of 73. He had a degree in accounting and worked as an accountant in the Chicago area for 20 years. Norman and second wife Michelle ran an insurance agency in Coral Gables, Florida for 30 years. Norm has a son, 2 daughters, 2 step-children and 7 grandchildren.

Deborah Donberg

Obituary:
Debbie died in December of 2022 at the age of 79. After College she became a teacher. Then she got a masters degree in counseling, but that was not her passion, either. She eventually became the managing editor for a trade magazine. After semi-retiring Debbie wrote for the magazine part time at home and did a little freelance writing as well. She lived near the lake in Chicago and loved to play bridge and tennis.

Henry Ecker

Obituary:
Henry (Hank) Ecker attended our 50th reunion in June, 2010. See his profile in the Classmate Profile section of this website. Hanks life ended in Scottsdale, AZ on Thursday, April 7, 2011. At the time of his death, after a long illness, he was married to Sharlan. Hank had 7 children and 15 grandchildren.

Faith Fishbein

Obituary:
Faith married fellow classmate Peter Nielsen soon after graduation. They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. After graduating college Faith taught inner city children. She also taught in the southern suburbs before moving to Florida. Faith and Peter did a lot of travel and saw much of the world. Faith was a founding mother of Northwest Community Academy in Chicago. She and her daughter formed their own high end children's boutique business. Faith died on December 3, 2014.

The Nielsen family, Faiths husband and children, is sponsoring the Kurt Vonnegut Jr. collection at the National Veterans Art Museum in honor of Faith. The family will continue to expand the exhibit in the future. As an artist herself, as well as the wife and mother to wartime veterans, Faith recognized the importance of the National Veterans Art Museum and believed that there is a nobility in Veteran art that should be shared and celebrated.
