Your Favorite Piece Of Wisdom: You must be Lucky in Life!
My Life Since Senn ...: After graduating Law School in 1968 I decided I would try the pursuit of Real Estate Development. I acquired property in a very seedy part of Chicago west of Michigan Avenue near Dearborn and Erie. The buildings were occupied by artist and various industrial users. My goal was to convert the properties from an industrial to an office use. One day a meeting was held by the various owners and occupants of the area to give a name or designation to our little community. We could not arrive at the right name so we decided to give the naming assignment to a local grade school. The area thrived and became quite successful. By the way, the winner of the contest was a second grade student and came up with the name RIVER NORTH.

Your Favorite Piece Of Wisdom: Don't accept it, nor reject it, merely flow with it.
My Life Since Senn ...: After graduation, I must admit that I had very little ambition. I have always enjoyed music and started playing the 5 string banjo and guitar. We formed a group and sang at several colleges in front of as many as 25,000 people. We were also hired to play at a place called the "Fickle Pickle". It was a very well known coffeehouse at that time.

My parents suggested that I at least go to a junior college. Amundsen. I actually enjoyed it and continued my next 2 years at The U of I Navy Pier.

During my Navy Pier days, I decided to join the Illinois National Guard and received a "secret clearance".

I guess that I still had some wild oats to sew. I tended bar at several places, the last one was called "Beavers", and it became a very well known place because of the bands that played there. I was co-manager and stood about 25 feet from the stage where the likes of, and I'll just mention a few, Buddy Miles Express (Buddy was the drummer for Jimi Hendrix, The Steve Miller Band, Country Joe and the Fish, The Buckinghams and do any of you remember "Baby Huey and the Babysitters?", among others.

I then went down to Florida with some friends and went to work at the Elbo Room in Ft. Lauderdale. This bar was featured in the movie "Where the Boys Are"

When I returned to Chicago, I went to work at a very busy pizza restaurant in Evanston called "The Spot". Evanston was dry at the time, but when it went from dry to wet, I was the first person to serve a beer in a restaurant. Not many people can say that.

This was where I met my wonderful wife of 34 Years, Nancy.

Immediately after marriage, we moved to a small town in Maine and we both went back to school. It was about that time that we chose careers over children. I spent the next 26 years at a large Architectural and Engineering firm as a presentation designer.

Maine is a beautiful state, however, as we grew older, the winters seemed to get colder and snowier. It was time to pack up again and move south, North Carolina. I retired and couldn't stand it, so I am now working part time at our local hospital in an administrative capacity.

Oh, and I still play a 5 string banjo, guitar and sing.

Nuff Said.

Your Favorite Piece Of Wisdom: Treat each day as if it were your last because some day you'll be right.
My Life Since Senn ...: I graduated Roosevelt University with a degree in Political Science and went on to graduate courses. While at Roosevelt I met my future husband, Steve Pernick and we married after graduation. We moved to Wilmette to raise our sons and have lived in the area ever since, trading our home five years ago for a condo on the lake. Our oldest son, Kevin, lives in LA and is a manager with the IRS. Our youngest, Kelly, is in Chicago and works for the accounting firm KPMG. Neither are married so no grandchildren.

In 1982, I became a pioneer in a new media, tele sales, and opened an agency that employed 235 people. After selling out to my partners in 1990, I continue working as a marketing consultant to Fortune 100 companies and serve on many professional and charitable Boards.

Steve, a criminal defense attorney, and I maintain a very active business and social schedule. We still work full time; enjoy travel, theatre, and getting together with friends from across the country.

We've been blessed with a wonderful family, much success in our chosen fields and a positive outlook on life. Looking forward to seeing you all and catching up on the last 50 years.

Your Favorite Piece Of Wisdom: 1. Treat each day as if it will be your last, and make each day be your best.

3. Treat others as you would have others treat you.

4. When you see an injustice or a wrong, you might/will think that someone should do something about it. Remember, you are someone!
My Life Since Senn ...: My life after Senn continued to be great. There were a few bumps in the road, but they just made me stronger. I never did make it to West Point, however, I did earn my B.S. degree in Economics from the University of Illinois. Served on various alumni boards, including as a Director of the University of Illinois' Alumni Association. I also attended De Paul University Law School and have had continuing professional education throughout the last 43 years.

I have received numerous community and professional awards including most recently "The Visionary Award" from NeighborWorks America, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's "President's Award for Excellence."

Some fun stuff included:

1. Serving for almost a decade as an officially sanctioned representative of the University of Illinois' Athletic Association.<

2. Retiring my bowling ball and becoming a "football bowler", ie. taking our son to numerous Super Bowls, Rose Bowls, Orange Bowl, Liberty Bowl, and others.

3. Phenomenal memories and stories from a week of Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX VIP activities in New Orleans.

4. And simply growing-up, loving watching, teaching, coaching our children and now our grandchildren.

Susan and I are truly blessed.

My Life Since Senn ...: I was in the Art Major program at the University of Illinois and transferred to Roosevelt University as a junior to prepare to become a high school art teacher. I graduated in 1964 and began working that Fall at Crane High School. I married my husband Stan earlier that summer and we are headed towards our 46th wedding anniversary. Our daughter Jennifer, who is married to Scott has worked as a paramedic and fire-fighter and is the mother of three young beautiful children. They will be moving closer to us to Glenview from Lake-in-the-Hills. She loves animals and has a talent for gardening. Our younger daughter Samantha is Director of Classical Programming for the Washington (D.C.) Performing Arts Society and therefore we don't get to see her as often as we wish. She and I are "foodies" and enjoy discussing recipes and food preparations. I have been active in PTO's, New Trier H.S. Fine Arts, our synagogue and Women's ORT. My husband is retired and I have been designing needlepoint canvases for the past 42 years. My work is distributed by a national representative, an on-line catalog and custom canvases for local and east coast shops. I love what I do.

My Life Since Senn ...: After receiving my BA, I taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Gale School in Chicago for 10 years. In my eighth month of pregnancy, my husband Neil and I moved to Harrisburg, Pa to open an equine supply business. When Shawn was born, I became a stay at home mom and volunteer (which I have continued to this day). Later, I helped Neil in our retail and wholesale businesses until we sold them and retired. We now live in Boynton Beach, Fl and Harrisburg, enjoying the best of both worlds.

Shawn lives in Washington, D.C. and is an attorney with the State Dept.

I enjoy traveling, reading, mah jongg, knitting, beading and generally enjoy being a retired person.
