Dr. James Newman, age 77 died November 1, 2019 from complications following a long battle with heart disease. He is survived by his second wife, Joan, who he married several years after the passing of his first wife, Diane. He has 2 sons, a daughter and 2 grandchildren. After attending Northwestern University, Jim completed his medical training at the University of Illinois-Chicago, specializing in psychiatry. He served in the Indian Health Service on the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana. Jim then practiced psychiatry in Fitchburg, MA before returning to Chicago where he worked at Rush, UIC, and Illinois State Psychiatric Institute, practicing medicine and training medical students. He spent the majority of his career at Cook County Hospital, dedicating himself to public health.
