The day will end.
Graduated from Roosevelt University with a B.A. in Early Childhood Ed - was on full scholarship. Taught first and second grades at Bret Harte School while Jeff was finishing Neurosurgery residency at University of Chicago Hospitals. After training, moved to Wilmette. We have three kids - Amy 42, Steven 41, and Abigail 37. We were and are a skating family. My son played high school and college hockey. Daughter Abby was a competitive figure skater; son, sons-in-law and grandsons continue with hockey. Granddaughters play hockey or figure skate. The eight grandchildren are all close (in proximity) and we are very involved in their activities. Our other passion is TRAVEL.

You never know where you're going in life 'til you get there.
Attended Northern Illinois University and got my BS in Chemistry. Worked in a chemical company manufacturing fine organic chemicals in Rockford. Moved on to manufacturing materials for heat shields that were used on the first Mercury Space Missions as well as reagents for the first 12/60 auto-analyzer for quantifying components of the blood. Also manufactured reagents used in gas chromatography as well as the chemical currently used by police to detect fingerprints.
Seven years of being exposed to many hazardous chemicals was enough for me so I decided it was time for a career change. And wow what a change! I started my own insurance-financial service business, earned a Masters degree in Financial Services, remained there for about 20 years, and then sold it. During all of this, in 1983 I was appointed member and chairman of the Winnebago County Board of Review that reviews real estate assessments, staying there “part- time” for 11 years. After that I was offered a “part-time” position with a law firm (also in Rockford) that quickly developed into a full-time job. I specialized in, you guessed it, getting client’s real estate taxes lowered. To this day I’m still at it; it’s just too much “fun” to quit! I was also elected township supervisor in 1977 and I still hold that position today; again, too much “fun” to quit! |

Life is like stepping onto a ship that is about to sail out to sea and sink. (Zen aphorism)
B.A. in philosophy from Northwestern (1964), followed by grad school in philosophy at UW-Madison, where I spent the next six years and was married to my first wife (we divorced four years later). Although I never completed my Ph.D. dissertation, I earned an M.A. in the field and taught philosophy for the next 35 years at UW, California State Univ. Northridge and (for 27 years) at Los Angeles City College, where I was very active in the faculty union. After I got to California in 1970 I got very interested in counseling, earned a second M.A. in Educational Psychology: Counseling & Guidance, and became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, working part time in that capacity for many years. I married my current wife in 1981 and we spent six months traveling around the world. Our children were born in 1983 and 1986. In 1998 I began working as the executive director of the Center for Nonviolent Communication, a nonprofit organization sponsoring training programs throughout the world. I left that position in 2006 and retired to Eugene, Oregon where I reside with my wife and son. Our daughter is currently living in Oakland, California. In recent years I`ve been offering some training in Nonviolent Communication; devoting a lot of time to playing the banjo and fiddle with the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers Association and other friends; volunteering with the local Department of Peace Campaign; gardening; and dealing with several health crises.

You can have your cake and eat it too.
After IU and U of I I went to the University of Michigan where David Ginsburg was attending college. We married 49 years ago and lived through Medical School, the Army (1 year away in Viet Nam - him not me) internship, residency, fellowship and the whole mess. I have been a housewife, mother (2 wonderful sons), grandmother of 4 (finally 1 girl in the family), political activist, office manager for David when he went into Private Practice, then formed and ran my computer business for 14 years. After selling the business 10 years ago I moved on to be an activist as board member of several organizations, political junky, traveler, opera fan and arts lover. I am now enjoying retirement with David, living most of our time in the city and trying to enjoy every day and hoping to make life better for those less fortunate than I have been.

Life may not always be fair, but oh so much fun if you let it.
Went to NIU, met husband, married, had 3 children. Joined life as a corporate wife, played lots of tennis. Went back to college. We traveled a lot, skied in Aspen a lot. Kids thrived and grew and went on to college and married and had my 7 wonderful grandchildren.
Now I live in Sun City Huntley, and wish I had moved here sooner; it's a wonderful life and lifestyle. Play much tennis, golf, and have joined other activities. |
